MutaualismWhere both organisms benefit.
Example: The bee and buttercup flower. The bee spreads the pollen of the flower throughout the area and the bee receives pollen for the nectar. |
CommensalismWhere one organism benefits but the other is neither helped nor harmed.
Example: Monarch butterflies and the toxic milk weed plants. The butterfly lays its eggs on the flower, but the flower isn't harmed, but it isn't helped either. |
ParasitismWhere one organism is benefited and the other is harmed.
Example: Leeches and catfish. The leeches latch onto the catfish's body and suck the blood from the fish. The leech may have blood now, but the catfish lost the same amount. |
